Wood Installation with Fence Unlimited

Fence Unlimited proudly serves Treasure Valley homes, farms, and businesses with durable, long-lasting craftsmanship. Free quotes available—call today.

Wood is the classic choice for privacy and picket fences, and it can be built in almost any style and height local rules allow. Cedar naturally resists rot and weathers to a soft gray. Pressure-treated pine is sturdy and usually costs less, and it's often used for the posts even when the boards are cedar.

How it works

From first call to finished job

  1. Step 1

    Tell us about your project

Fence type, rough length and height, the gates you need and your address. A photo or a quick sketch of the yard helps.

  2. Step 2

    Measure and plan

The fence line is measured and walked with you: corners, gates, slopes, trees and anything in the way, plus property lines and city or HOA rules.

  3. Step 3

    A clear quote

You get a quote that spells out the materials, height, length, gates and how the posts will be set, so it's easy to compare.

  4. Step 4

    Installation

Underground lines are marked through 811 before digging, then posts are set and panels, rails and gates go up. The site is cleaned up when the work is done.

What's included

Wood Installation: what we handle

  • Privacy fences: Solid 6 ft fences in dog-ear, flat-top or board-on-board styles that block the view from neighbors and the street.
  • Picket and split-rail: Lower fences for front yards, gardens and large properties, where you want a boundary rather than a wall.
  • Posts set to last: Posts set in concrete or compacted gravel, deep enough for your soil and frost line.
  • Keeping rot away: Ground-contact rated posts, and a kickboard along the bottom so the fence boards stay off the soil.
  • Gates to match: Walk gates and double drive gates built from the same boards, on frames braced against sagging.
  • Stain and sealer: Stain or sealer applied once the wood has dried out, to slow weathering and hold the color.

FAQ

Wood Installation: common questions

Cedar or pressure-treated pine?

Cedar resists rot and insects naturally, stays straighter and weathers to a silver-gray if left unstained. Pressure-treated pine is strong and usually costs less, but it's more prone to shrinking, warping and cracking as it dries. Many fences combine the two: treated posts with cedar boards.

How long does a wood fence last?

With well-set posts and regular staining or sealing, a cedar fence commonly lasts 15 to 20 years or more, treated pine somewhat less. Wet soil, sprinklers hitting the boards and skipped maintenance shorten that.

When should I stain a new wood fence?

New wood, especially pressure-treated lumber, needs to dry before it takes stain well, often a few weeks to a few months depending on the weather. A simple test: sprinkle water on the boards. If it soaks in, the wood is ready; if it beads up, wait a little longer.
